What Are English Setters Like?

English Setters are athletic, energetic and companionable dogs, bred to work but at the same time with an excellent temperament that makes them ideal as companion or family dogs.

However, English Setters do require a fair degree of dedication from their owners.

Their long coats dictate that they ideally need a daily brushing. Their working heritage also demands a considerable amount of exercise. They also need a lot of training and early socialization is terribly important with this breed.
