Character

The English Setter is an energetic, intelligent and companionable dog with an independent character developed over centuries to work with but at the same time independently of its owner.

English Setters are exceptionally good natured and are excellent dogs with young children making them an ideal family pet.

That having been said, English Setters, because they were bred to work with man, need the company of people. They are not a dog to be left on their own for long periods of time. But providing they are given sufficient exercise, love and attention, English Setters make wonderful companion dogs and their naturally friendly nature makes them an ideal choice for a family pet for families with children of any age.
